 1st Generation

The iPod touch 1st generation model has a 3.5-inch (measured diagonally) widescreen multi-touch display and comes with 8 GB, 16 GB, or 32 GB storage space. It also allows you to surf the internet using  Apple's Safari browser and also watch videos etc. This model was also the first iPod created with Wi-Fi capabilities. This means you can connect to a wireless network at home or in the coffee shop .You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on the iPod touch as well.

2nd Generation

The second generation is an improvement on the first generation in the following ways. The second generation iPod Touch has an external volume switch and a built-in speaker . The second generation also comes with the chrome frame seen on the iPhone 3G. In addition the 2nd generation 2g Ipod Touch has a more contoured design and features an oval shaped antenna in the left top corner when viewed from the rear of the device.Second generation iPod Touch models also have a yellower cast/tint to the display than the earlier model. Both models feature USB 2.0 as the primary method of interfacing with a computer although the 1st gen models allow for firewire charging. The computer you are interfacing to must have at least Mac OSX 10.0.4.10 or Windows XP SP2. Apple also seems to have improved on the power consumption efficiency with the later 2nd generation which boasts 36hrs audio , 6hrs video playback compared to the 22hrs audio , 5hrs video playback of the 1st generation Ipod Touch.

3rd Generation

The third generation Ipod Touch was released in September 2009 with a couple improvements on the second generation such as improved internals and Voice Control capability .Apple also drastically brought down the price by as much as $100.
